Recipe: Reduced sugar homemade Cinnabons with stevia

Cinnabons make almost anybody's mouth water and now you can make your very own homemade cinnabons with reduced sugar, substituting with stevia instead. Try them and let us know what you think!

Ingredients: 

  • 1 (7 g / ¼ ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ cup stevia
  • 6 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups flour

For the filling: 

  • ½ cup soft brown sugar
  • ½ cup stevia
  • 4 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the cream cheese icing: 

  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • ½ cup stevia
  • ¼ cup cream cheese
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions: 

  1. Mix the yeast in the lukewarm milk in a large bowl.
  2. Add sugar, olive oil, stevia, salt, eggs and flour in a bowl and use a hand held mixer to blend.
  3. Pour the milk and yeast mixture in the bowl and carry on mixing.
  4. Place dough into an oiled bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface, until it is approx 40 cm (16 inches) long by 30 cm (12 inches) wide.
  6. It should be approx 6 mm thick.
  7. Preheat oven to 180°C.

For the filling: 

  1. Combine all the ingredients and mix.
  2. Spread the mixture over the surface of the dough.
  3. From the long edge and cut each roll into 4 cm slices.
  4. Place in a an oven tray covered with baking paper.
  5. Cover with a damp cloth and allow them rise and double in size.
  6. When ready, bake for 20 minutes or until golden colour.

For the cream cheese icing: 

  1. While the rolls are baking, make the icing by mixing all ingredients and beating well with an electric mixer until fluffy
  2. When the rolls are still warm, spread the icing mix over them and allow to melt.
